Regional Stepwise™ uses a component-based footprinting approach to calculate the ecological footprint of your community or region. 

A standardised ecological footprint methodology is used which is compatible with the ‘gold standard’ national calculations  summarised within the ‘Living Planet Report’ published by WWF. This methodology has been adopted by the European Commission as part of their European Common Indicators Project and is likely to be adopted by the UK Audit Commission as part of their Quality of Life Indicator set.

The results from Regional Stepwise can be benchmarked against a database of other regions worldwide.

4 SIMPLE STEPS TO DETERMINE YOUR FOOTPRINT

1: Complete a quotation and data specification form. This is available for download here.

2 : Based on the specification contained within the quotation form, send data to BFF providing as much local data as you are able to about your region. BFF will use their own database and experience to make approximations for data which cannot be accurately measured (or data which is too difficult or too costly to collect).

3 : An ecological footprint report for your region is produced which enables you to understand the scale and distribution of the environmental impacts within your region. See the example report.

4 : Then, if you would like further input on prioritising areas for action, the footprint analysis can be further developed in a variety of ways - for example it can focus in on one policy area or used to develop a range of scenarios.
