Xana Villa Garcia

Senior Analyst

Xana joined Best Foot Forward in 2007. Since then, she has calculated around 40 carbon and ecological footprints for clients including Ecover, Ofcom and WRAP. As a certified Carbon Trust analyst, she has been responsible for producing carbon labels for products including beer, filters and central heating system chemicals. Her areas of expertise are oil-based products and biomass materials. 

She has a BSc in Environmental Studies from Florida International University, and an MSc in Coastal Zone Management from Bournemouth University.  She previously worked as Environmental Health and Safety officer at the Spanish headquarters of an international automotive firm. She has spoken at ecological footprinting conferences in Spain and Italy, and has been interviewed in Daphnia, the national magazine for Spanish trade unionists.

Xana has completed training for providing CEMARS (Certified Emissions Measurement and Reduction Scheme) certification services to clients and is an Associate member of the IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment).

She has worked on the following projects:

  • PAS2050 carbon footprint of five Fernox products
  • Baseline organisational footprint for OFCOM
  • Development of Footprinter emissions factors for FIRA, Publisher’s Association  and  IHOBE (Basque Country).
  • Pan-Departmental UK government footprint for Defra
  • Carbon analyses for Brown Forman (Fetzer wines, Finlandia vodka)

Xana likes to cycle to work and has achieved a top speed of 22 minutes for the 5 mile journey. She is a vegetarian except when tempted by Spanish chorizo (the pigs live in the forest anyway, it’s fine). She also enjoys scuba diving.
