"In the early days, the rush was to measure your impact. Now, attention has turned to ‘How can I reduce my impact?’"

Senior Analyst

Kevin was Best Foot Forward's first employee, beginning his professional career in the last millennium. His interest in Best Foot Forward's mission evolved during his BSc Ecology degree (University of East Anglia), where the ‘ecological interactions’ of humans were a neglected subject. In his studies he concentrated on human impact on the earth and discovered the ecological footprint in time to make it the subject of his final year dissertation.

After graduation Kevin worked with the Centre for Social and Economic Research on the Global Environment at UEA, where he developed and honed skills in life cycle assessment at many different scales and with a variety of methods and applications. Two years later, Best Foot Forward came across Kevin’s dissertation and the rest, as they say, is history. Kevin has continued to develop and apply human ecology analyses. During his time here, the company has grown and carbon footprinting is now a well known concept instead of a new idea.

Kevin has contributed to the delivery of the following projects:

  • Biffaward Funded Regional projects: Island State (Isle of Wight), City Limits (Greater  London), Scotland’s Footprint (Scotland), Material Health (NHS England and Wales) Northern  Limits I and II (Northern Ireland), Stepping Forward
  • Member of Global Footprint Network’s Standards and National Footprint Accounts Review  committees, contributing to Footprint Standards (2006, 2009) and NFA methodology
  • Carbon footprint of Scottish dairy supply chain for the Scottish Government
  • DG Environment - Potential of the Ecological Footprint for monitoring environmental impact  from natural resource use
  • Lake Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia, Regional Stepwise analysis
  • Waste, transport, energy, CO2 and ecological footprint Public Service Agreement targets and analyses time series for Essex County Council

In his spare time, Kevin is a Right To Ride volunteer for CTC and enjoys exploring the habitats of the UK and Ireland with his wife and their tandem. With his wife, he also completes an annual bat transect for the Bat Conservation Trust.

"The application of the ecological footprint, carbon and greenhouse gas emissions accounting for organisations and products has changed over the time I have been here. In the early days, the rush was to measure your impact. Now, the attention has turned to ‘How can I reduce my impact?’"

Most likely to say...
“Get on your bike!”
