Associate

Dan has spent his entire 25 year career in the field of environmental sustainability, working in consultancies, non-profit bodies and the public sector at national, regional and local level. He devised the government’s strategy for combined heat and power in buildings and co-authored the 2003 Energy White Paper, with lead responsibility for the demand management, CHP and fuel poverty sections. He has also advised the European Commission, as well as many NGOs, on aspects of European energy policy, from zero energy buildings to job creation. In 2011, his modelling formed the basis of scenarios to deliver 90% carbon reduction across the entire EU building stock.

Dan has devised strategies to reduce the ecological footprint of the SE region of England, and was also part of the team that developed the Renewables Obligation. Whilst at the Energy Saving Trust, he secured its ISO 90001 and 14001 quality and environmental certification, and ran or directed several high profile initiatives, including all EST’s evaluation activities, the Homes Energy Efficiency Database, Energy Saving Recommended, Future Energy green tariff certification and numerous other certification schemes. He was also instrumental in devising and directing energy efficiency obligation schemes, and advised both the Government and energy regulator Ofgem in the establishment of the Energy Efficiency Commitment – a precursor to the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target.

When he's not at work, Dan spends most of his time with the family; favourite haunts are the allotment and their house in the mountains of southern Poland.

"I was attracted to becoming an Associate with Best Foot Forward due to its solid reputation (I actually appointed the company to do our “No-Nonsense Guide to a Low Carbon Economy” when I was at SEEDA), and the complementarity of our skills and competencies."

Most likely to say...

"The big wins are from cutting out waste and improving resource efficiency."
