Product Portfolio Footprinting is our answer to the question of how to scale up sustainability management
Multinational corporations are increasingly setting ambitious sustainability targets which go beyond their own operations to include the whole supply chain. Many larger businesses are looking for ways to reduce their total footprint in the most intelligent, efficient way.
Product Portfolio Footprinting - piloted with Tesco, Pepsico, Crown Paints and WRAP - enables businesses with complex supply chains and thousands of different products to quickly measure and manage their carbon footprint. This new service was launched in December 2011, and in May 2012 it led to us winning the Environment and Energy Awards.
The traditional ‘life cycle analysis’ approach to footprinting – looking at the cradle to grave impact of one individual product in detail - can take many weeks for each product. Using Product Portfolio Footprinting, Best Foot Forward analysed over 300 products in less than 10 weeks for Crown Paints. Product Portfolio Footprinting helps businesses and their supply chains to understand their carbon hotspots and see the big picture, but it uses detailed process data rather than financial information.
