Ferries and the environment

Ferry companies are actively taking steps to reduce their environmental impact. Shipping is already one of the most efficient forms of transport. Ships produce fewer greenhouse gases per tonne for every mile travelled compared to flying, and excess heat produced by ships’ engines is channelled back around the vessels to provide, for example hot water, heating and the making of fresh water.
