Chapter 7 Summary

This chapter looks mainly at global and national footprint studies and methods.

Data is presented from the 1999 ‘Footprint of Nations’ report, covering 52 nations, and some of this data is considered in the light of ecological capacity and competitiveness.

Some global scenarios are presented based on possible growth patterns in populous countries such as China and India.

Since the writing of Sharing Nature's Interest, WWF have published their Living Planet Report 2000. Contributors to this included Mathis Wackernagel. The report contains up-to-date  ecological footprint calculations for more than 150 countries.
