Business Benefits

"Measuring our ecological footprint is an essential first step to controlling
our use of resource and reducing our environmental impact."

John Lloyd Jones, Chairman Countryside Council for Wales

There are many business benefits to measuring, managing and reducing the consumption of energy and materials:

  • Reduce resource costs
  • Reduce eco-tax liabilities
  • Comply with forthcoming environmental legislation
  • Address stakeholder concerns
  • Create new business opportunities
  • Be on the leading-edge of the 'green wave'

The Corporate Stepwise Service is an efficient and standardised way of accounting for your use of energy and materials using ecological footprint analysis. The results can be used to:

  • Identify environmental 'big hitters'
  • Find the most cost-effective means of reducing your impacts
  • Measure and monitor environmental sustainability
  • Report your environmental performance
  • Identify opportunities for savings

How the Corporate Stepwise Service works

Outlined below are the mechanics of carrying out an Ecological Footprint Analysis of an organisation. The process may vary according to the clients needs. Please do not hesitate to contact Best Foot Forward to refine your particular requirements.

Phases

  1. Best Foot Forward (BFF) provides the client with a generic data specification.
  2. BFF will work with the client to clarify the data specification and plug any data gaps.
  3. BFF will apply the EcoIndex methodology and database to the data set and derive a Footprint figure. This will be represented as an indicator normalised against employees, turnover, office area or any other normalisation unit desired by the client. Costs are based on ‘footprinting’ one data set.
  4. BFF will produce a report for the client presenting raw materials flow data and Ecological Footprint (EF) values.
  5. Scenarios (optional): Some clients like to understand the effect of improvement measures on the Ecological Footprint value. The client will provide a scenario with as many materials flow and consumption details as possible, in the same format as the main data specification. BFF will then provide the Ecological Footprint values. If more than one scenario is requested, the results will be presented alongside each other for comparison.
  6. Communication of results (optional): The Ecological Footprint is a useful communications tool for internal and external audiences alike. Best Foot Forward can assist in using the findings in your communications strategy. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Costing and Schedule

To discuss costing please contact us on 01865 250818 or send an email.

The most time consuming part of an Ecological Footprint analysis is data collection and the elapsed time of the project is therefore largely dependent on client resources.  BFF will expect to process data within two weeks of receipt of a fully completed data specification. A further two weeks should be allowed for delivery of a report.
