FIRA, the Furniture Industry Research Association, is a leading trade association for the furniture industry. For 60 years, FIRA has developed many of the test methods that form the basis of furniture standards worldwide.

FIRA's role is to assist the furniture industry supply chain to improve its competitiveness and profitability. FIRA realized that furniture manufacturing, distribution and retailing are carbon intensive processes and that a price on carbon would be expensive for the industry and require a long transition.

It has an extensive database of materials and processes used in furniture manufacturing, covering the full lifecycle of products. This allows furniture companies of all types to assess the carbon footprint of their products and operations and to develop comprehensive reduction plans.
