Business Footprints - making the
headlines
Following the
declaration by UK Government Minister the Rt Hon David
Miliband MP, that he would like to see a move towards a 'one
planet economy', UK businesses have been rushing to calculate
their footprint.
BFF, who are researchers and advisers on WWF's One Planet
Business programme, and were conferred a Queen's Award last
year for their work on company footprints, are currently
analysing data for more than a dozen leading-edge
organisations.
Says BFF Director Craig Simmons: "We have seen an
increased awareness amongst business. More are now recognising
the benefits of calculating their footprint and using it to
improve the environmental performance of the products and
services they offer. "
BFF's Corporate Stepwise service and tool calculates
both the ecological and carbon footprints of an organisation;
its operations, products and services. Learn more about Corporate

The publication of L'empreinte ecologique
coincides with the release - in Chinese - of Sharing

Treasury announces zero carbon homes
initiative |
|
In a surprise announcement, Her Majesty's Treasury revealed
in the 2006
Pre-Budget Report (published 6th December) that "by
2016 all new homes will be ‘zero-carbon’" and that "a
stamp duty exemption for the vast majority of new zero-carbon
homes will be introduced in 2007."
For several years BFF have been supporting ZEDfactory
(architects of the famous BedZED zero emission development) to
develop zero carbon buildings standards - referred to as the
ZEDStandards - which are to be the subject of a forthcoming
book (due out Spring 2007).
BFF and ZEDFactory were delighted to be amongst the
organisations asked to advise the Treasury on how best to
define a 'zero carbon' home and are eagerly awaiting the
publication of detailed Government guidance next year.
